This area of the Pyrenees offers fantastic climbing opportunities, suitable for all ages and abilities. There are easy rock faces to top rope, well maintained bolted routes and mountain summits achievable via multi-pitch routes. Local guides can supply equipment and tuition for any ability, ranging from complete beginners to ambitious climbers looking to improve.
The world-class bouldering site known as the 'Chaos of Targasonne' is situated only 20 minutes drive away from the gite. Located at 1500m above sea level, the enormous plateau is covered by granite boulders, providing 24 sectors of at least 485 recorded bouldering problems. A visit to this site is a must for the keen boulderer.
The region also boasts Via Ferrata (Italian for iron road) routes built onto the rock face, equipped with ladders, steps and cables. A head for heights and fairly good physical condition is essential for this activity.
An option suitable for all the family is the adventure ropes course, situated among the trees surrounding Lake Matemale, where a maze of nets, zip wires and crossings promises an exciting day out. The routes gradually increase in height until only the bravest climbers are left - the smallest of children are often seen encouraging very reluctant parents! The routes are fully supervised, and a pre-climbing session from multi-lingual instructors is provided.
Another popular excursion is Canyoning. This consists of descending down a river by a series of abseils, jumps and slides, promising exhilarating fun for all the family.
